The Sleuth’s Toolbox: The Codex

A unique feature of 5-Minute Mystery is the Codex. After months of development, prototypes, and tweaking, we’ve come up with something that we are truly excited to get into your hands. The final product feels really good.
Here’s a quick video, showcasing the factory prototype of the codex:
INSIDE SCOOP
When we were first conceptualizing the game, we considered using dice as the codex feature. This went through a number of variations, including one where you had to turn each of the five dice to put the correct symbol facing up. But playtests proved that it just wasn’t exciting enough. So a simple question that started with “well, what if...” ended with us using a 3D printer, washers, and some hand-crafted pieces to DIY our first version of the codex. After that, we knew we couldn’t go back to just using dice.
You'll notice the strange old symbols we used on the dice before moving to the codex.
